Famous Artists
The Impressionist Painters were a group of artists. They painted their impressions instead of trying to paint exactly what they saw. Many of them painted scenes near Paris and in the South of France. Auguste Renoir was an impressionist painter. Many of his pictures show people having fun. He painted people at the theatre and dancing, for instance. Edgar Degas is well-known for his pictures of race horses and ballet dancers. Many impressionist paintings are in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
Claude Debussy was a composer and pianist. He wrote a well-known tune for piano called Clair de Lune.
Marcel Marceau is a brilliant mime artist. He often plays Pierrot, a French pantomime character.
Auguste Rodin was a sculptor. you can see many of his sculptures at the Musée Rodin in Paris. The Thinker is a famous sculpture.
